VIZIO VX200E 20-Inch ECO 720p LCD HDTV Review

After comparing similiar sized TV's at Best buy, Sam's Club, and Sears, I purchased this TV at sears for 9 last thursday, it was a an internet purchase returned to the store. I like the fact that it was 20 inches not 19, and I liked the Vizio over similar offerings from Samsung, Dynex, Sylvania, and Insignia. I purchased it for use in my home office, would have prefered a black housing instead of white, but that was not a concern. I got it set up and hooked it to my Dish Network DVR via coax cable and the non hd channels look good when setting the tv to the Zoom 1 setting, and watching the Winter Olympics on the local NBC HD channel looks fine, I went on the internet and looked and the recommended viewing distance for a 20" to 5 feet so it looks a little fuzzy closer up as compared to it being in VGA mode for the computer, the other knock on this Tv from what I read was that it has only a 160 degree viewing radius, but since I am will primarilty the only one watching it, was also not a concern. The tricky part was hooking it to my notebook computer, which was the part of the reason for buying it. I used a VGA cable as oppose to HDMI, the native resolution is 1600x900 and windows 7 set it up correctly, but on the TV the computer image was pushed way right, and up. I called tech support and the women was of no use in assisting me in correcting the problem. I moved internet explorer over to the tv screen and after maximizing the window, I then using the TV settings, played with the horizontal alignment, size, and vertical alignment and got it adjusted correctly and it looks just fine. The remote is quite large, but its no bigger than my DVR one so I don't mind. My initial opinion is that its a great tv for the money, so only time will tell on the the durability.

Excellent... So Far... - BlueMango - Cedar Rapids, IA
Purchased the Vizio VX200E 20" HDTV last night at Sam's Club for 0. I had been considering a Samsung LN19B360 19" HDTV to replace our older non-HD Samsung 19" LCD on the kitchen counter. The Vizio VX200E caught my eye with a great picture, larger yet still compact size plus a lower price compared to the Samsung... so off I went with the Vizio. I'm connected directly to the cable... no cable box, no outside antenna. When given the "Turn On" command, the set does take a few seconds to "warm up" before switching on, but that's not a show-stopper. After going through the setup procedure, we were pleased to be watching a top-notch picture considering the price. Broadcast channels in HD over the cable look great on this set. Sound quality is satisfactory though a little hot on treble... haven't tried to adjust sound or the picture/ color... default settings are quite good.

I wonder if TV remote design engineers use the products they design?? Seems that none of the TV remotes are flat on the bottom so one can push remote buttons with the unit sitting on the table/ counter without ending up with the remote flipping over.

Overall I am very pleased with this product... after less than 24 hrs of use... it's performance over time will determine my long-term view of quality & reliability.

disappointing - spin_nin - Chicago, Illinois United States
This set was for use in a kitchen. Based on the low price, lots of available connectivity, decent sound quality, and it is a good size for the application we went with the Vizio.

The TV falls short in the most important area which is picture quality.

It is not sharp, it is very pixelated at all times, and suffers from major motion blur. Images just don't look right on this set. Colors were vivid though.

Used an OTA HD signal from a roof top antenna that doesn't display like this on other sets.

I suggest spending a few bucks more and go with a Samsung or LG in this size range. Their picture quality is excellent.

Great Price Vizio VX240M for

VIZIO VX240M 24-Inch Full HD 1080p LCD HDTV Review

As a future college student, I have looked for, researched, and tried out many small HDTV's to use as a computer monitor/HDTV for my dorm room. The employees at Best Buy stated that if a TV wasn't over 46 inches big, you couldn't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. However, he didn't know what he was saying. At relatively far distances (i.e. normal watching distance for most TV's) the difference between 1080p and 720p is small to none. However, from a short distance (like 4 feet for a 42 inch, or 1.5 feet for a 24 inch) you can easily tell the difference in resolution. This is where this T.V. comes in. As a computer monitor, I will be close up to the screen, reading tiny text like the text in this review! Now that the main issue has been sorted out, it's onto the main review:

Contrast-5000:1 may seem like a big number, but that is only dynamic. Although I couldn't find the static/typical contrast, it is probably around 900-1000. However, since this set has a relatively low brightness (300 cd/m2), blacks looked blacker than normal, which is a good thing.

Resolution- 1080p...enough said!

Motion- 5 ms means that button presses on any device (like a keyboard or game console) happen with only an unnoticable .05 second delay, which is lightning fast. However, since there is no 120Hz, there will be noticeable motion blur on extremely fast action scenes. This tv is relatively small, so motion blur won't be a big problem for normal watching and gaming.

Feature Set/Presentation- since this is an ECO HDTV, it uses far less power than previous models, if your into the whole energy saving thing. SRS TruSurround is always a good thing for making movies and other sounds "pop" but when that program is run through 3 Watt speakers, you can't expect much. The 3D comb filter, now standard with many HDTV's, helped to put out a wide color scheme; at least that's what my friends said they saw, I'm colorblind, so color gamut specs really don't apply to me. The white/black look touches off my 360, but it can only match with so many things.

Overall Value- for a little over 0, you get full 1080p, a relatively "large-small-screen" great for a computer monitor, and the confidence that you got another good HDTV from Vizio.

Hope you liked the review!

5 stars within its class - R. W. Russell - Lodi, CA United States
By "5 stars within its class," I mean this is an excellent set if you don't compare it to much more expensive TVs with far more features. If you're just looking for an HDTV in this size with a really great picture and simple operation, and at a bargain price, this one qualifies nicely. It's currently being featured at Costco at a deep discount. (March 2010).

I connected mine to an over-the-air antenna, and the HD picture out of the box was simply outstanding. Another advantage that this model has over many of its competitors is the front-facing speakers and strong audio output. I previously bought a Samsung P2770HD with similar specs, except that the audio output from its down-pointing speakers was really poor, even at max output. I took it back to the store. You can hear this one in any room with the volume control at less than 50%.

Some reviewers have criticized this set because of its tinny sound (described as "hiss" or "static" in other reviews). That's largely because the default audio tone setting is "flat," and you can change it in the audio submenu. I set mine to "rock," which improved the bass and cut the tinniness.

I didn't have any of the other problems cited by other reviewers such as color bleed or a logo that won't go away. No logo on my screen.

I'm not a fan of Vizio in general, as it's by no means a top of the line manufacturer, and their sets rarely show up on any preferred list in Consumer Reports and the like. But I decided to take a chance on this one due to Costco's generous return policy. If it disappoints me within 90 days, I can take it back for a full refund. But first impression on this one is that it will be a keeper.

It's great but.... - Peter B. Perkins Jr. - California
This TV is easy to use, has a good array of inputs on the back, and even has a headphone input. My biggest complaint is the light bleed especially the edges. Coupled with Blu-Ray the picture is amazing but when my eyes aren't attracted to the edges I'm looking at that spot that supposed to be dark but is kind of shiny-ish. If you know what I am talking about and really don't care then I highly suggest this TV and brand in general for the ease of use and low prices but if you are easily distracted like me you should probably look for something else...

Excellent all around. - Michael W. Bennett - Baltimore, Maryland USA
Delivery was as promised, and the television is wonderful. The picture is great, and my only regret is that I did not purchase a larger screen.

Speaker hiss, logo won't turn off - Adam J. Richter - Campbell, California USA
When playing digital broadcast television or HDMI digital audio such as from a blu-ray or DVD, the built-in speakers have substantial hiss reminscient of a distant analog television siginal. The headphone jack (the unmarked hole in back of the left edge of the monitor) also has audio static, although the static was only noticible when I used my $[...] Maxell dhp-ii headphones and unnoticible on my $[...] Inland heaphones. I bought one of these televisions at Costco and swapped it out for a replacement due to the audio static, and both units had the same audio static. I work around this by connecting my headphones directly to my blu-ray player and keeping something plugged into the telvision's headphone jack.

Also, if you are going to use this television as a monitor always playing video-only signals, you should be relieved to know that the audio static apparently does not occur until it is asked to play audio. So, if you are just going to connect the monitor to an HDMI computer video card with no audio, you may never have to deal with the static.

Another drawback you should be aware of is that you need an external AC power switch to get the unit's logo light to turn off.

Finally a really minor complaint is that selecting VGA input from the remote control requires a multi-key sequence that has a fast enough timeout that I often have to try twice. The other inputs have their own buttons on the remote control, so this problem only applies to VGA, which will become less popular in the future anyhow.

In spite of these drawbacks, if you think of this device as a video-only monitor with a good number of inputs that, as a bonus, includes speakers and a broadcast digital TV tuner that can be used to catch the news occasionally, it is cost competitive with similar computer monitors that have no speakers and no ATSC tuner.

Great Price Sony KDL-40V5100 for Too low to display

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-40V5100 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

I have a 52" W model in the living room and bought a 40V5100 model for the bedroom. The W model is definitely worth the extra money when you look to get a it all.

The pros:
The 40V5100 overall just fine for my bedroom.
Picture quality is fine.
Tuner works great and picks up everything.
Menu is easy to navigate.
Enough inputs.

The cons:
The sound is has a lot of static noise at lower volumes, it's very annoying.
The stations don't change as fast as on the W model.
You can not edit the names of the stations.
Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a higher end TV.

issues with the volume - Alan - California,USA
I just recently purchase this television and was wondering if anyone has the same problems with the volume? I have a ps3 and am using the HDMI cbl. I was watching a movie and noticed that the volume would go up and low and back up in some scences for the entire movie.

Great for family room - Mrs. Write - Chicago, IL USA
This TV made for an awesome Christmas present, especially since I got an amazing Black Friday price on it. This is our first flat screen, and we have been very impressed with the picture quality, ease of use, and look of it hung up on our family room wall. We were a little surprised to find how much more we have to turn it up in order to hear well, but it's not any kind of dealbreaker. Overall, super pleased. Highly recommended.

Check Out VIZIO VX240M 24-Inch Full HD 1080p LCD HDTV

Great Price Sony KDL-46V5100 for Too low to display

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-46V5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

Over the last few months, two different Sony service techs have replaced the motherboard on my Sony KDL-46V5100 to fix the intermittent color fluctuation called "red flashing." The red flashing also affects blues and other colors too, but it's most evident on red. Both times it did not work.

Following the second tech firm visit in early January, the tech firm forwarded a detailed email from me to Sony America explaining the issue. Later, Sony called and asked if I was willing to use my Sony KDL-46V5100 to test a prototype firmware patch. I agreed. After I installed it, all the programs that had the intermittent color fluctuation no longer did it! The picture is still outstanding but now without the annoying intermittent color fluctuations.

Bottom Line: To fix the red flash you will need to call Sony Customer Support and request the "December 2009 firmware USB patch." Sony told me this patch would NOT be available on the Sony eSupport website because the update resets the TV to factory default.

If you purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-##V5100 during the clearance sales of late, you likely have the red flash but just haven't noticed it yet. This firmware update may also apply to the similar color fluctuation issues reported in the S5100 and VE5 series.

Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-46V5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Overview

For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a lot of performance.

Sony Bravia - Thomas Kreminski - Denton, TX
The Sony Bravia is a great television and I bought it at an incredible price. Very happy.

CAVEAT EMPTOR - BEWARE!!! - Jae - Connecticut
My wife and I bought this from Best Buy back around June/July this past year. It started out okay for the first few days then, we started having trouble with the sound. First, it was intermittent where the sound would go in an out. Then, we started having problems where switching from HD to non-HD channels it would go black and we could only get some sound. We thought it was our old receiver we had so, we ditched that started using just the inputs through the TV and its speakers. Overtime it got worse and worse.

To make matters worse (not an Amazon problem) we used Elwin Electronics via Best Buy as the repair and it took them over two months to replace a sound board. They put in a brand new board and, guess what we're still having audio problems. The cable box works great and is a fairly new HD box. The TV is garbage. I should've trusted my instinct and gone with a Samsung. Right now spending a bit more $ and going with the Samsung LED-LCD 46". Stay away!!! (Unless you're looking for a TV with issues).

Great TV for the Price - Sunshine - Doylestown, PA
I bought this TV a couple of weeks ago after about a month of research, reading others reviews and reading the ratings in Consumer Reports. Whether in HD or standard picture the quality is excellent. Many other reviewers complained of the sound but for me the sound is great. Can turn it up high and I do not get any distortion. Was easy to hook up to my DVD player and cable and the set up and adjustments using the TV menu was very easy. I have always had Sony products and actually considered another brand at first but at the last minute changed my mind and was glad I did. I also got a great price on the TV purchasing right before the Superbowl. I am not a gamer nor do I use the internet through my TV so I cannot comment on that. I also have a window facing the TV and there is absolutely no glare. Overall, I am very pleased with this TV.

WARNING! - EV Thurobred - New York, NY USA
This TV didn't work from the day I brought it home. There are problems with the sound dropping and the picture quality. A Sony technician has been here twice to fix it and hasn't been able to.

Sony customer service want me to pay 0 for a different 'upgrade' model, for which I can only find a price difference from the model I have.

They drove me absolutely crazy, lied on multiple occasions and the only way I can get a different TV is to pay this 0. The only other option was to get an exact same model replacement, except they would only offer a refurbished model.

So I either have to accept a refurb model or pay an extra 0 for another model, all for bringing home a poorly constructed Sony TV. And here I thought I was upgrading from the perfect Panasonic I've had for the last 10 years. You absolutely suck Sony.
